The Horses

“But ask the animals and they will teach you.” Job 12:7

Horses are powerful and effective in helping people, whether child, youth, or adult. They have much to teach us about our patterns of behavior, communication and relationships. Horses are excellent “teachers”, coupled with trained facilitators certified in personal and social development, interaction with horses can often provide invaluable assistance in addressing challenging life issues in a fun, action-oriented, non-threatening learning environment. We invite you to meet the Returning Glory horses. Each of our horses have their own unique journey and stories, and offer many challenging teachings.

K.C. our friend

How does one say “goodbye?”
She faithfully carried us for 23 years~through “crisp blue
moonlit” rides, through “wheat fields glittering with lightening
bugs” rides, through “face warming golden sun” rides, through
“crackling red and orange leaf” rides, through “cool sprinkling
of rain” rides, and through “soft blue silent snow” rides.
She faithfully cared for strangers, who knew nothing about
horses, allowing them to enjoy the feel of a ride and took them
to quiet places where their hearts could meet with their Prince
of Peace.

She faithfully ministered to wounded hearts – following the direction of her Creator. She made it safe for many hearts to step past their
fear, she parked by gates until hearts learned confidence, she gently lowered her head for little hearts to giggle as they touched her soft
muzzle, and she ran and she ran when hearts needed to feel freedom. How does one say “goodbye?” One thanks the Creator for such a
horse. One thanks the Giver of the gift. One thanks the Designer of this amazingly gentle creature. One releases the grieving to the
Keeper of our tears, the Healer of our hearts; the Faithful One who changes our mourning into dancing.

Our Father in heaven, thank You for K.C.

Mr. Buddy

At 18 years old Mr. Buddy has seen a lot of life.  His owner loved him and had many wonderful times with him.  He was taught in the English discipline and even did a little jumping.  But Mr. Buddy’s family was breaking up.  He needed a new place after the divorce and we were so very happy to make this ranch his new home.  He is a seasoned horse but will let you know when you have a little more to learn.  If he is not quite trusting of you those ears will come back, he’ll turn and look at you, and clearly let you know something needs to change.  When you have walked through that change he will gladly take you for a gentle and easy ride – he teaches the way to trust.

Lakota

Another gift from Above – Lakota.  He was donated to the ranch last fall and is showing himself to be an amazing gentleman.  At 4 years old he has had little handling, which gives us a clean slate to begin his relational time with humans.  On one of the coldest days of this past winter, Coral and I went to pick him up and getting him into the trailer was a major task.  Coral spent 1 ½ hours in wind chill temperatures of 10 below with a young horse not wanting to give up his ways.  But with her patience and consistency he finally decided the trailer was a better place to be.  After these past months of building a relationship with him, he has decided people are better to hang around than horses!  He still needs relational time to build lasting trust and good decision making skills – like so many of these young people that come to the ranch.  Lakota will be a good teacher for those who find it hard to go to the unfamiliar place of trust.

Buddy

Yep – he’s their buddy.  Buddy is trustworthy and patient.  Those little ones that come with a mountain of fear soon feel it melt away when they are with Buddy.  He’s there for them, whatever it takes.  It may be a lot of walking around the arena or maybe standing very still so they can just touch him.  A true gentleman, Buddy is always aware of the immediate need and the care needed for the small child sent to him from above.
